Arch of the Cardinal
Arch of the Cardinal

Agosta. Arch of the Cardinal

The cardinal's arch was erected in 1503 over the Aniene river at a bridge crossing. The building was erected in honor of Cardinal Colonna who for some time had also tried to expand in Agosta.

In the eighteenth century the bridge was destroyed by a flood and then rebuilt about fifty meters from the previous one. Subsequently, the arch was also dismantled and moved to its position in the center of the town of Agosta.

The arch is a simple plastered brick construction ending with 4 merlons. The profile of the arch is highlighted by worked blocks of marble.

A statue of the Madonna has been placed on a small niche.
