Ancient Celleno

Ancient Celleno is an abandoned town built on tufa rock, 350 meters high, between two streams which gradually flow towards the river Tiber.

The tufa foundation where the village stands is unfortunately prone to slow erosion that is seriously endangering its stability.

The village begins with the Orsini castle surrounded by a moat.

It consists mostly of small houses in characteristic red tufa without plaster.

Many houses are ruined because they were abandoned after the disastrous earthquakes.
