Leonessa. Angioina Tower

Leonessa. Angioina Tower

The Angioina tower was designed and built around 1280 by Charles I of Anjou.

It is the true symbol of identity and cultural heritage of Leonessa.

Not satisfied with the project designs which had been presented to him and by the works of the tower construction, the sovereign commanded his personal architect, Pietro D’Angicourt, to take care of the work in April 1280.

Built in local limestone, the tower was part of the defensive system of walls also built with the same type of material.
