At the end of the narrow and winding streets of the historic centre, Anticoli Corrado opens onto one of the largest squares in the Aniene Valley, Piazza delle Ville.
In the center of the square is a large modern fountain created by Arturo Martini. The shape of this fountain is very particular and recalls that of an Indian stupa resting on 4 crocodile heads that overlook a large circular marble basin.
This story was told by the artist Enrico Gaudenzi, who at that time was a model of the studio of the American artist Maurice Sterne where Arturo Martini was located. Maurice had received a postcard from India depicting a stupa and Arturo Martini was enchanted by it.
The other peculiarity of this fountain is that it is one of the first works made of reinforced concrete which, over time, has changed color and with the growth of the moss it has taken on a particular appearance that makes it look like peperino.
