Arcinazzo Romano. Medieval towers

The original castle of Arcinazzo Romano was destroyed over the centuries and the current medieval village was born on its foundations. Arcinazzo has always been under the direct control of the church, first of the nearby abbey of Subiaco and then of the Apostolic Chamber.

The lack of a feudal lord did not lead to the creation of representative buildings and stately palaces and the beauty of the ancient village is precisely in the small houses built next to each other.

Of the original defensive system two towers are visible: a portion of two sides of a tower right on the highest point of Arcinazzo Romano. It is said that the abbot's emissaries who came to check on the abbey's possessions stayed in this tower.

The second has instead been transformed into the bell tower of the church of Our Lady of the Assumption - Santa Maria Assunta but the ancient shape can be perfectly recognized.
