The Artists' Staircase is the link between the parking lot and the central square of the village and in many parts it is dug into the side of the mountain.
The whole itinerary is enriched by works of contemporary art: poems in murals, sculptures and ceramics.
The cultural revival of Cervara di Roma began in the 1970s and had a strong focus when the students of the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence led by Prof. Vincenzo Bianchi decided to choose this village as the venue for international meetings and internships with artists from around the World.
It is a tribute to 19th century artists such as Ernest Antoine Hébert, Samuel F.B. Morse, Ludwig Adrian Richter and the famous Spanish poet Raphael Alberti who has dedicated poetic verses to the town.
The staircase ends with verses that were composed by the master Ennio Morricone in his "Notturno - Passacaglia per Cervara" of 1998. The teacher stayed for a long time in Cervara and the Administration granted him Honorary Citizenship.
