Graffignano. Baglioni Castle

Graffignano. Baglioni Castle

The Baglioni castle of Graffignano is an early Renaissance masterpiece built by the Baglioni family around the fourteenth century to the request of the Papal States.

It was built over a previous manor and is characterized by a rectangular plan and a cylindrical tower 23 meters high with an internal spiral staircase.

The castle belonged to the Baglioni until the seventeenth century, when it passed to Domitilla Cesi, who spread the worship of San Filippo Neri.

At the end of 1669 the Graffignano estate was transferred to the family of Federico Borromeo and later, to the lordship of Scipione Publicola Santa Croce.

Around the castle, which is not open, they have the so-called "houses within" that feature outdoor staircases and cellars that were used as stables.
