Barbarano Romano. Romana Gate

Barbarano Romano was surrounded by several walls and porta Romana or Romana gate is situated in the outer wall.

The first wall is that of the original castle defense and dates back to the eleventh century.

The second dates from the thirteenth century and along the perimeter has square towers.

Porta Romana belongs to the third which dates from the fifteenth century and has cylindrical towers, better suited to protect themselves from firearms.

Romana gate was repaired in 1863 with the clock added.
