The white stone building of Barberini Palace was founded in the sixteenth century by the transformation of the original castle around which was formed the village of Capranica Prenestina.
The palace was built in two stages by Giuliano II Capranica and Angelo Capranica.
They first built a simple house so that it could be transformed into an elegant residence by adding levels and decorative elements.
The renaissance style is given by the rusticated main door, surmounted by a small balcony, reachable by climbing a stately staircase, and the window frames.
The Capranica never enjoyed the palace that passed to the Barberini family and, in the nineteenth century, to the municipality.
Today it is the seat of the municipality, the civic museum and the large hall is used for ceremonies and conferences.
