In Bolsena, the fountain of San Rocco is located near the entrance of Porta Fiorentina in the Renaissance square of San Rocco dominated by Palazzo del Drago.
It was built in 1450 by Cardinal Giovanni de' Medici, son of Lorenzo de' Medici and future Pope Leo X, because it was said that the spring water was miraculous.
The story tells that just San Rocco must have drunk the waters of a source that was in this area and then had recovered from a thigh wound. The event is commemorated every August 16 with a mass.
The fountain has 8 outlet tubes and still today every year the story of Saint Rocco saint is celebrated in a mass with the blessing of the waters on August 16, the day dedicated to the saint.
