Canterano. Church of Saint Mary and Saint Mauro

The small church of Saint Mary and Saint Mauro is in the historic center of the beautiful village of Canterano where the ancient castle once stood.

Its simple facade is covered with plaster and is enriched by a door reminiscent of Roman temples. The church is completed with a bell tower placed in the back with a clock which, together with the bells, once marked the life of the citizens of Canterano.

Inside, the church is in neoclassical style and has a single nave with side niches with altars and a barrel-vaulted roof.

The nave ends with a circular wall and in the altar area there is a case with relics and precious religious objects and the statue of Saint Mauro, the patron saint of the town who is celebrated in winter on January 15th.
