The Baronial Palace (Palazzo Baronale) or Comitale is called the ‘castle’ and is located right in the historic centre of Cellino San Marco.
The work started in 1578 by Giovanni Antonio Albrizzi who built a wing around the original square tower.
In addition to the government of the territory and the prisons, in 1742 the palace was enlarged by Chyurlia who established their residence there.
Over the years it has been sold in portions to the extent that it has lost the overall image.
A tunnel connects it to the nearby church of San Marco which was used for the burial of the dead before it was forbidden in the early nineteenth century after an edict by Napoleon.
Today a part is public and hosts exhibitions and events.
