Cori. Roman Bridge over Catena

Cori. Roman Bridge over Catena

The Roman Catena Bridge (Ponte Romano della Catena) in Cori has an arched stuctura.

It is about 20 meters high and dates back to the first century BC and crossed the ditch of the Catena near Porta Ninfina.

The bridge has stone foundations while the arch is in tuff. Previously there was another three-arched bridge that crossed the ditch.

The bridge still exists but was partially covered in order to build an underground car park in the 1970s.
