The ancient Roman theater of Ferentino is located in the heart of the historic center and for years only one portion was visible while the rest was covered by some houses. In recent years it has been brought to light and now finally completes the beauty of the architecture of the Roman period.
The theater was built using a slight slope and its construction dates back to the 2nd century AD. and as in many other important Roman cities, over time the buildings have occupied the upper part and that of the stage and the curved buildings could be recognized, such as in Palestrina, Terracina or Formia.
The terraced theater was covered with a velarium to protect the spectators, and one of the poles that supported the structure can be recognized. It had a diameter of about 54 meters and could hold up to 3,000 people. To handle all the problems related to the flow of so many people it had been built next to the main cardo of Ferentino and in proximity to Sanguinaria gate.
