Farnese. Fountain of Mostra

The story of the fountain di Mostra in Farnese is linked to that of the aqueduct whose construction was started in 1617. It should bring to Farnese the waters of San Martino spring (today Botte).

For three years large sums of money were spent for the excavation of wells and underground tunnels that led Mario Farnese to the brink of bankruptcy.

The work was interrupted for errors in the calculation of altitudes. In the mid-nineteenth century the work resumed.

In 1887 finally the water reached Farnese and the event was lavishly celebrated with various events and the inauguration of the monumental fountain of Piazza del Comune.
