Fontechiari. Boncompagni Tower

Fontechiari. Boncompagni Tower

The 25 meter high tower of Fontechiari has a quadrangular base and a tapered plan.

It ends with 48 stone brackets that gave solidity to the building and served for flinging stones from above and create a ‘machin-gun’ effect on besiegers.

An impressive stone staircase leads to the fi rst fl oor room where justice was administered.

A hatch with a small door leads to a room with two passageways going in the direction of Vicalvi and a cylindrical well.

The tower is owned by the Viscogliosi family.
