The Colonna Rocca (Fortress) of Castel San Pietro Romano, now abandoned, has its origins in the tenth century and consists of a square building with square towers at the top.
At the centre of this building is a cylindrical bastion traditionally used as a prison.
In its prisons they important figures were kept such as Jacopone da Todi (who composed poetry) and San Berardo dei Marsi and Conradin of Swabia (1268).
