 Fountain of four moors

The fountain of four moors is the symbol of the city of Marino and was built in 1632 to celebrate the victory of Marcantonio Colonna at the Battle of Lepanto in 1571.

The fountain is a white marble column to which are connected the four dead, four Turkish prisoners.

The whole complex is supported by eight mermaids in a pool of lava stone. The fountain is located in Piazza Lepanto and was rebuilt after the Anglo-American bombing of 1944.

The fame of the fountain is inextricably linked to the "miracle of the fountains that give wine" during the Grape Festival: it was the first fountain to give wine on October 4, 1925.
