The bishop's palace of Frascati retains the appearance of a medieval castle around which the city was formed. In fact it is located in the center of the ancient village on a square that dominates the view of Rome.
It was built together with the city walls between 1400 and 1500 at the behest of Pope Pius II Piccolomini as the residence of the bishops and still houses the diocese.
In the internal courtyard are preserved ancient finds from the Roman and medieval times including the sarcophagus which for years was the fountain of the Three Spouts.
The interior is frescoed in Pompeian style and enriched by numerous works by Taddeo Kuntz.
