Frosinone. Governor’s Palace or Palace of the Prefecture

The palace is also known as the Palace of the Prefecture and is the most significant building of Frosinone because it was built on the foundations and structure of the sixteenth-century fortress.

Since 1825 it has been modified by the architect Sarti to become the seat of the Apostolic Delegation of Frosinone (Governors of the Papal State).

The portal is the only original part and is said to have been built on a design by Michelangelo.

The nineteenth-century building was destroyed sequentially by the earthquake of Marsica in 1915, by a fire in 1927 and the Allied bombings of World War II.

Its present form was created after the war and some of the furnishings are from the Reggia di Caserta.
