Monterotondo. Garibaldi gate

Porta Garibaldi - Garibaldi gate in Monterotondo was designed by the architect Frontoni in 1722 and was part of the walls that surrounded the city.

It is the last of the four entrance gates to the old town remaining and its ancient name of Old Roman gate was changed after the conquest of the city by Garibaldi on 26 October 1867.

In order to enter the city, coming from the Valley Tiber, Garibaldi had to burn the door that closed access to the centre.
