Church of the Madonna of the Grace

Jenne. Church of the Madonna of the Grace

The small church of the Madonna of the Grace was born outside the ancient inhabited center of the castle perhaps in the fifteenth century and today it is located in the Jenne area which dates back to the early twentieth century.

The church has the typical shape of a small white plastered house with a gabled roof and a small belfry with one bell. The interior is divided into two naves, the result of a later expansion probably from the nineteenth century with the construction of the second nave.

Inside, the altar area is richly decorated with frescoes that recall the Madonna and Child to whom the church is dedicated, and a painting while the rest of the building appears simply white.

This church inspired the phrase of the writer Antonio Fogazzaro dedicated to Jenne "... the flock of huts that the bell tower governs" which then inspired him in the story of 'Il Santo'.
