Leoncelli Palace in Cave dates back to the end of the 14th century and features the coat of arms of the Leoncelli family, two rampant lions, on the front door.
It was a place of historical importance when the Cave Peace Treaty was signed on September 13 and 14, 1557, marking the end of a bloody campaign for the dominance of the "salt road."
Peace was sanctioned by the mighty Cardinal Carlo Carafa, on behalf of Pope Paul IV, and Duke D'Alba representing Philip II of Spain and Naples.
Two tombstones testify to the event.
The building is characterized by a simple balustrade with windows framed on the first floor.
Until 1989 it hosted the Pie Filippine Sisters.
