Licenza. City gates

The entrance to the historic center of Licenza still takes place through the ancient gates of the castle and two of them can be recognised. The first is in correspondence with the main road that leads to the ancient courtyard of the Orsini castle, which has now become a square, where the museum dedicated to the poet Horace is located.

This gate looks like an arch framed by travertine inserted into the fabric of the city walls, and is decorated with a worked plaster tympanum.

A second gate is found in the alleys of the ancient village and the coat of arms of the noble family can still be admired.
