Licenza. Obelisk of the cross

In the center of Licenza there is a very particular monument with a tapered shape called the obelisk of the cross because it ends with a cross.

It was built by Bishop Mario Orsini, the family that governed Licenza, at one of the gates of the castle.

There are several stories that tell of its construction perhaps due to salvation from the plague or perhaps as a warning against bandits. Other stories tell of an element that celebrates the Orsini branch of Licenza.

The obelisk is made up of several superimposed stones and the different reddish and light colors of the granites can be recognized.
