Leonessa. Mongalli Palace (Town Hall)

The Mongalli Palace at Leonessa today is the seat of the commune, and dominates Piazza VII Aprile.

Built between the 15th and16th centuries by the Mongalli family, it has a local stone portal that resembles that of Palazzo Farnese in Rome created by Antonio da Sangallo the Younger.

At the centre of the arch is a rooster on a mount surmounted by a shell with a crescent moon and two stars, symbols of the Mongalli family.

In 1970, on the facade, a Venetian Gothic-style bifore window that had a star of David was uncovered that had been covered during fascism.
