Colleferro was born as a private settlement in the service of the munitions and bombs factory that was started around 1916.
For all practical purposes it considers Colleferro as a 'city of the Foundation' and its main urban construction was built in 1937 by engineer Riccardo Morandi.
He also designed the church of Santa Barbara, the patron saint of the city, which was one of the first examples of the use of reinforced concrete as an expressive element.
The special feature of this urban settlement was the technology used to build the houses: they had a great thermal efficiency and the way in which the urban structure reflected the social structure of the factory.
There were several areas for workers, managers and executives that were reflected also in the architectural and urban styles.
