Rocca Canterano. Moretti palace

Moretti palace represents the entrance to the upper part of the village of Rocca Canterano and takes its name from Arcangelo Moretti who built it in 1756.

The palace was born on the ruins of the previous fortress built first by the Romans as a lookout point and then in the Middle Ages to protect the Aniene Valley from the expansionist aims of Landone, the lord of Cerreto and Bellegra.

Observing the palace, it is still possible to distinguish sections of the ancient walls of the fortress.

The inner side of the building forms the Piazza della Corte - Court square which is still today the living room of the village before arriving at the incredible viewpoint on the highest point of Rocca Canterano. You enter the building through an arched door embellished with a cardinal's coat of arms which was placed to honor the stay of a cardinal.

The building is private and partly intended for housing. On the large reception hall you can admire a coffered ceiling and frescoed walls.
