The Musignano castle of Canino, was built on the ruins of a former monastery.
Pope Pius VII gave it to Lucien Bonaparte who used it as his residence in Canino.
Today it is owned by the Torlonia family who bought it as is from Lucien Bonaparte.
The first document that mentions the castle is from 1053 and covers a concession made by Pope Leo IX.
In the thirteenth century a document reports that Canino had two castles.
Anyhow, Musignano followed its destiny and over the centuries passed through several feudal lords, all soldiers of fortune who had made their fortunes.
It was included by the Farnese in the Duchy of Castro and, at its fall in 1649, entered in the assets of the Apostolic Camera.
