Montenero Sabino. Orsini Castle

The original fortified nucleus of Montenero Sabino occupied the high ground on which the Orsini castle stands, and later the walls were enlarged.

As with many other fortresses of Lazio, the castle ended its defensive function in the sixteenth century and was turned into a Baron's Palace with the addition of two round crenellated towers.

Today the Orsini castle is owned by the municipality of Montenero Sabino and can be visited: the great manor halls with frescoes of coats of arms of noble Houses, the inner courtyard and the scenic outdoor staircase.
