Farnese. Chigi Palace

The fortress Chigi in Farnese dates back to the twelfth century and was transformed between the thirteenth and seventeenth centuries to make it into a stately building.

The elegant facade is dominated by an imposing portal with columns of granite, travertine for ashlar (e.g. stone highlighting or embossing) attributed to Smeraldi.

Inside a staircase in basalt, it leads to the courtyard, and from there, through semicircular stairs, you enter the heart of the castle.

A complex series of corridors and courtyards leads to the servants' living quarters located on the mezzanine floor and the private apartments located at a higher level now used in private homes.

Along one of these corridors is still visible today the emblem of "Anguillara" one of the families related to the "Farnese".

From the courtyard it is possible to see a small dome, with the crest of the Chigi family, which testifies to the existence of an ancient chapel.
