The Vignola palace in Grotte di Castro was designed in the second half of the sixteenth century by Jacopo Barozzi "il Vignola".
The history of the building was known because it was the town hall and in the Historical Archive of the municipality is news of an earthquake on May 30, 1563.
The building was damaged, and the offices were moved into rented private homes.
The person instructed to repair the palace, Vignola, at the time worked for the Farnese family about which the archive is rich in detail.
In 1921 another earthquake forced new modifications.
