The door is located near the town hall and therefore in the medieval part of the town of Montefiascone.
It takes its name from Pope Pius IX and was built in honour of a visit in 1857.
The door is in peperino stone, the characteristic volcanic stone of Tuscia, and has clean lines: a round arch with a play of geometries on the upper part and two circular decorative parts, one on each side.
