The Roman cistern of Affile is a rectangular underground room (3 m x 17 m approximately) with two sides dug into the rock and two made in stone covered by a barrel vault.
The structure is still full of water that once came from a circular opening at the centre of the vault.
In 999, above the cistern was built a church and a monastery known as Sant'Angelo Supra Cisternam, which disappeared in the sixteenth century.
