Porta Romana gate in Vitorchiano takes its name from the direction of the access road and for this reason it is the main gate of the town.
It has a quadrilateral base and a structure in peperino with an ashlar-worked entrance arch that perhaps in the past housed a drawbridge to overcome the moat that surrounded the walls.
On the arch you can recognize the coats of arms of Vitorchiano and Rome.
The tower is high and ends with battlements and is equipped with bertesche and loopholes.
On the back of the tower, on the first floor of a Renaissance-style structure, there is a votive shrine with a Madonna, with an inscription engraved in the peperino bearing the date of 1769.
