San Donato Val di Comino. Clock Gate

The gate clock or Greek Gate of San Donato Val di Comino, dates back to 1200s and its role was to defend the town.

In the Middle Ages the houses began to be built along the existing walls. In this way, they had to make another larger city wall.

The village does not have true defensive walls, but the full usage of the houses in the walls fulfils the same protection role against raids and criminals.

Even today you can find the circle of walls around the original nucleus of the town.

Below the Clock gate there are three crosses carved in stone that are attributed to three robbers who were hanged in the sixteenth century.
