Leonessa. Spoletina gate

The present Spoletina gate of Leonessa dates back to 1496, the part that includes the pointed arch is in local red stone on top of limestone.

On the inside, at the sides, are two red stone lions of which the left one coming from the Corso is the only original.

Originally the inside of the door was decorated with a great fresco depicting San Giovanni of Leonessa in ecstasy in front of the Virgin of which a few remains can be deciphered.
