Temple of Jupiter
Temple of Jupiter

Terracina. Temple of Jupiter

On Mount Saint Angelo in Terracina, Mount Jupiter, in the second half of the second century BC, is built a sanctuary of several levels.

An upper terrace ("entrenched camp"), used primarily for the military, was equipped with protective walls and towers of the temple and means to connect it with the acropolis of the city.

On the upper level there is a small terrace with a small temple with a series of vaulted rooms decorated with frescoes.

This temple has become part of the convent of San Michele Arcangelo.

The lower terrace, however, is home to the great temple and the shrine of the oracle.
