The remains of the fortress are located on the highest point of Cervara di Roma and dominate the village and the underlying Aniene Valley.
The view is amazing and on particularly clear days you can see the Tyrrhenian Sea.
After the glory of the sixteenth century under the fief of the Colonna family, the fortress lost its defensive functions and was left in a state of progressive abandonment until more recent timess.
In 1954 a statue of the Madonna was placed on the spot where once the castle stood.
