Zagarolo. Tondo amphitheater

Tondo of Zagarolo is a small first-century amphitheater used as a gym where gladiators trained for the private performances of the annexed Villa.

It has a classical elliptical shape and was built in cement works and opus reticulatum around the first century AD.

Today most of the hemicycle is visible with two niches for the tribunes of honor, while the presence of holes suggests that the steps were made of wood.

Above the niches and above the openings of the wall, supporting arches made of radial bricks can be seen.

Some sections of the wall were integrated in post-Roman times with various other materials.

The building is located in Colle del Pero, two kilometers away from the center of Zagarolo.
