Veroli. Roman Forum

The Roman Forum, the center of the Roman city was to be near the current center of Piazza Mazzoli where the cathedral of Veroli and town hall are located.

Under the town hall there is the 'underground Veroli' with a cryptoporticus, a network of rooms that connects the town hall and the cathedral and which was once part of the Forum of Veroli, the social and political heart of the Roman city.

They are four of rectangular-shaped rooms and covered by a barrel vault are connected by low, arched and narrow openings placed at the center of the short side.

These openings are made of squared stones while the wall is covered with smaller stones and arranged according to the opus incertum.

The complex of the four rooms has a width of 3.80 meters for a total length of 22 meters and dates back to the II century BC. The rooms have been cleaned and can be accessed from the civic museum.
