Fiorita gate is one of the oldest in Viterbo and is inserted in the stretch of walls that date back to before the thirteenth century. Its characteristic is that it is 'at an angle' and today you pass through the door going up a section of stairs.
In fact, the gate was walled up in the 15th century because the adjacent road found itself in a lowered position, probably as a result of works involving the ditch that surrounded the walls in this section.
The nearby Porta San Pietro was opened for the passage of the wagons and only recently Porta Fiorita was restored and reopened to the pedestrian crossing.
