Porta San Marco

Viterbo. St Mark gate

St Mark gate - Porta San Marco is located in the part of the masonry where the monastery of Santa Rosa is located in correspondence with the passage of the Urcionio river that once divided the city of Viterbo into a noble and popular area.

The Urcionio river flowed near the walls in Valle Faul and today it is completely underground.

The door was built in 1200 and closed in 1500 until its recent reopening.
