Porta di Valle o Porta Eviali o Porta Eulali

Viterbo. Valley gate or Eviali gate or Eulali gate

Valley gate or Eviali gate or Eulali gate was one of the oldest and connected the center of Viterbo with the valley near the Urcionio river and was protected by the Torre di Branca. In the early sixteenth century it was closed following an overflow of the river which also led to the collapse of a section of the walls.

To allow the connection with Faul valley, the nearby Paul gate - Porta Faul was then opened.

Next to the entrance you can see the ancient apse of the Abbey of Santa Palomba which was totally destroyed over the centuries.

Today the gate has been restored and reopened to pedestrian traffic.
