Greccio. Nativity Scene Museum

Greccio. Nativity Scene Museum

The Nativity Scene Museum (Museo dei Presepi) is located in the ancient church of Santa Maria and in another building in the inspiring town of Greccio.

It is home to many art forms from all cultures on the theme of the Nativity. The Italian tradition of representation of Nativity every year during Christmas time started in Greccio with St Francis. St Francis spent many years in this area next to Rieti - called Saint Valley - and founded many monasteries.

Next to the museum you can admire a statue of St. Francis, a 5-meter high work of the Sicilian sculptor Santo Paolo Guccione and Reatino (from Rieti) maestro Guido Carlucci.
