Contigliano. Assault on the Castle

Assault on the Castle is a medieval event in a historical-sporting tone in Contigliano.

It recalls the attack on the "castrum" by Vitelli the mercenary captain of Cesare Borgia.

In August of 1501 Vitellozzo Vitelli, mercenary leader employed by Cesare Borgia, camped for several days with his soldiers under the walls of Contigliano, and then attacked the castle and plundered the countryside.

Everything started from the refusal by Contigliano to provide accommodations and provisions to the soldiers.

From this story the annual event arose, which also tells of everyday life scenarios of the ancient village.
