Cittareale. Cheese Bowling

The Italian Federation of Traditional Games and Sports (F.I.G.e S.T.) organizes in Cittareale a contest of Cheese Bowling, an Etruscan origin game.

As for the skittles, the type of cheese bowled was also a gamble.

It is said that a certain Baraccani, bowling a matured form of pecorino cheese, lost, along with most of his goods, the Monterastello castle in the valley of Pavullo (Modena).

It is tradition that, at the end of the contest, the winner, in a sign of respect and friendship, goes over to shake hands and offer a glass of wine.
