Castelnuovo di Porto. Christina of Sweden Music Festival

Castelnuovo di Porto. Christina of Sweden Music Festival

A Music Festival and a weekend of celebrations in the Rocca Colonna of Castelnuovo di Porto in honour of the Queen of Sweden who had visited this village in 1655.

Christina of Sweden is known for having renounced her reign in favour of personal freedom to follow her love for another woman, Ebba Sparre, and her cultural passions.

For this reason she abandoned the Lutheran religion and, in an unexpected way, she converted to Catholicism and came to Italy. During her trip one of the stops was precisely Castelnuovo di Porto where she was welcomed with celebrations.

For this reason, in her honour the Music Festival Cristina of Sweden is still organized with young musicians who come from all parts of Italy.

It is interesting to remember that Cristina then lived with her cultural court in Rome and here she founded the first public theater of Tordinona.
