Giuliano di Roma. Festival of the Maccaruni 'cu gli ferri'

The Maccaruni 'cu gli ferri' festival involves the entire town of Giuliano di Roma. The housewives engaged in the realization of the macaroni, famous homemade pasta that takes its name from the particular technique that is used.

70 housewives prepare 120 kg of dough based on water, flour and salt and then divide it into small portions.

Then the dough is twisted around an iron that often in the past was the iron of an umbrella (cu irons). The true mastery of housewives is that of knowing how to pull out the dough so that it retains its shape.

They are then cooked in boiling water and seasoned with a sauce always prepared by the local ladies.

A true Italian experience and a real thrill to see a whole village that strives for what they consider their party.
