Saracinesco. Historical procession

One of the main festivals of Saracinesco is the historical procession which recalls the passage of Conradin of Swabia on 18 August 1268 before going to fight in Tagliacozzo against the Angevin troops of Charles I of Anjou who supported the papacy.

Carradino di Svevia was the son of the great Federico II and nephew of Federico Barbarossa and the battle of Tagliacozzo put an end to the contrasts between the papacy and the empire, i.e. between the Guelphs and Ghibellines.

The historic procession of Saracinesco takes place in mid-August and during the re-enactment the whole town goes back in time for a few days, transforming itself into a medieval village animated by music, games and typical dishes.
